Common EGR Trouble Codes
See any of the codes below, give us a call for a permanent fix!
Our exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) delete will be able to permanently resolve and fix any EGR related faults.
A list of the most common trouble codes, also known as fault codes, that we have encountered and helped fix along the way can be found below.
If your vehicle is showing any of the trouble codes below or even EGR fault codes which we are yet to encounter, please get in touch for a permanent fix.
Generic to all manufacturers:
- P0400 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Malfunction: This generic code indicates a problem with the EGR system’s overall performance. It could be due to a variety of reasons, such as a clogged EGR valve, a faulty sensor, or a vacuum leak.
- P0401 (16785/P0401/001025) Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected: This code means that the Engine Control Unit (ECU) isn’t detecting enough exhaust gas recirculation. This could be due to a blocked EGR valve, a vacuum leak, or a problem with the EGR position sensor.
- P0402 (16786/P0402/001026) Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Excessive Detected: The opposite of P0401, this code signifies that the ECU is detecting too much exhaust gas recirculation. This could be caused by a stuck-open EGR valve, a faulty sensor, or a problem with the EGR vacuum control solenoid.
- P0403 (16787/P0403/001027) Exhaust Gas Recirculation Circuit Malfunction: This code indicates a general electrical problem within the EGR circuit, such as a faulty sensor, wiring issue, or a problem with the EGR solenoid.
- P0404 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Position Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Problem: This code suggests a malfunction with the EGR position sensor itself. It could be faulty or sending incorrect signals to the ECU.
- P0405 Exhaust Gas Recirculation sensor A circuit low: This code points to a problem with the electrical circuit controlling the EGR valve. It could be a faulty solenoid, wiring issue, or a problem with the ECU.
- P0406 Exhaust Gas Recirculation sensor A circuit high: This code indicates that the EGR position sensor is sending an abnormally high voltage signal to the ECU.
- P0407 Exhaust Gas Recirculation sensor B circuit low: The opposite of P0406, this code signifies that the EGR position sensor is sending an abnormally low voltage signal to the ECU.
- P0408 Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve sensor B circuit high: The opposite of P0407, this code signifies that the EGR position sensor is sending an abnormally high voltage signal to the ECU.
- P0409 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor “A” Circuit: The code P0409 could indicate a circuit malfunction
- P1403 EGR solenoid low
- P1404 EGR system – closed valve pintle error
- P1405 EGR solenoid high
- P1406 EGR system pintle position error
- P0488 Stuck EGR valve is listed as intermittent
- P040A Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor “B” Circuit
- P040B Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
- P040C Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor Circuit Low
- P040D Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor Circuit High
- P040E Exhaust Gas Recirculation “A” Control Circuit Low
- P040F Exhaust Gas Recirculation “A” Control Circuit High
